Here at Spice Capital, we’re focused on making big bets in areas primed for rapid change. To do that, we believe it’s important to stay up to date with what some of the most exciting thinkers and builders are saying day-to-day as well as mixing up your content intake with some fun from the corners of the internet. We know there’s a lot of noise and the space can feel overwhelming. Don’t worry! We’re here to be the Hot Sauce in your bag so you can make sure you always keep things spicy!
1. Had a lovely chat this weekend with a friend at Axiom Space who reminded me that we are getting close to a Star Trek sci-fi reality. On this week's reading list I'm linking you to Payload Space - which goes deep on the new and noteworthy innovations happening in the space industry. Don't miss out!
2. Ria Bhutoria gives us her vision for how to create better products that uphold to the values and utilize the benefits of crypto.
3. Creators underpin every tech revolution. Hear from the best and brightest - a16z's Chris Dixon interviews Bob Iger on how he handled disruption and welcomed innovation at Disney.
4. With everyone worried about the market, interest rates, and inflation - I thought this was an interesting take from Flexport CEO Ryan Petersen about a trend reversal in the shipping industry with freight rates plunging and container traffic to the US down almost 20% last month.
5. (LADIES!!!!) SheFi has launched its rebranded website and a new course offering starting in Feb 2023. Maggie Love created SheFi as a comprehensive crypto bootcamp anchored in hands-on education, experimentation, events, and community. Apply Now to be crypto confident :)
6. Really loved this podcast from Parker Conrad, CEO of Rippling discussing the idea of building "compound companies" (forcing you to listen so you understand what his theory on the new wave of startup building entails).
7. This article questions hyperconnectivity and the democratization of cultural production. With the rise of TikTok micro-trends (🤮) is our creativity actually limited by the platforms we use?
"Digital abundance is a mixed blessing: exhilarating, yet flattening and homogenizing. Culture is converted into “content” that blurs together as it flows through the same conduits and across the same interfaces in an endless stream. As we struggle to keep abreast of the accelerating flow of content, drawn by the perpetual lure of the new, we come to know less and less about more and more."
8. Had the privilege of being interviewed by Spice Capital's favorite creative Joe Therrien Kelly for RMX Party. Hope you enjoy my 2023 in and out list that nobody asked for!
